Postgraduate in Contemporary Applied Arts

The Postgraduate Diploma in Contemporary Applied Arts taught by Escola Massana and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) fosters student training that explores new territories and frontiers in Applied Arts. The programme is eminently hands-on, with a focus on the different projects and activities that students engage in through our range of specialty workshops, particularly: Textile Art, Artistic Jewellery, and Fire Arts (Ceramics and Glass).

This programme provides the environment and the time needed to encourage the growth and advancement of skills, and the mastery of techniques, as well as an exploration of  materials. Simultaneously, it provides a shared space for reflecting on the contemporary purpose of the applied arts and their role in today’s world, rooted in an interdisciplinary approach and in the common field of the arts and design.

Students and professionals involved in the fields of craft, design, and the arts in general, as well as graduates in Fine Arts, Architecture, Design, Communication and Humanities are welcome to register.

When it comes to the professional development of students, the Postgraduate Diploma in Contemporary Applied Arts promotes the development of personal projects that involve a high degree of social, ecological, and creative involvement by optimising the resources furnished by arts and design practices. In turn, its interdisciplinary approach allows new artisans to work in multidisciplinary teams related to fields including architecture, product design, visual arts, fashion, audiovisual and performing arts, and others that the future may hold.

The aim is to deepen the expression of personal creation by generating opportunities that lead to a  creative professional career through a programme that meets 21st-century human and societal needs.
